Things to do

What to do in Lednice and the surrounding area

From a wine tasting to a boat trip to the Minaret to a day out in the Pálava hills. We are happy to help you plan a single afternoon or a whole week.

Lednice is not a place where you run out of things to do. Most of it starts in the park a few minutes from the guesthouse; the rest is within half an hour by car. And when the weather lets you down, there is still plenty to do indoors.

Birds of prey, Lednice (Seiferos)

10 min walk
Flight displays of birds of prey in the château park, enjoyed by children and adults alike. The programme runs in season — ask at reception for current times.

10 min walk Boat trips to the Minaret and Janův hrad

10 min walk
Sightseeing boats set out from the château along the Dyje and the old river branches. The nicest option is to sail one way and walk back through the park.

Horse-drawn carriage rides

5 min walk
Horse-drawn carriages set off from the château and drive through the park. A slow pace that usually holds children’s attention longer than a walk does.

Lednice Spa

10 min walk
A rehabilitation and wellness centre right in Lednice. Our guests can take advantage of a special offer there — just ask at reception.

Cycle routes of the Lednice–Valtice area

starting at the guesthouse door
The Liechtenstein trails and the wine-cellar nature route start practically at the guesthouse. The terrain is flat, so this is pleasant family cycling rather than a workout. Our bike storage is lockable.

Fishing

10 min walk
The Lednice ponds and the Dyje are good fishing waters. The nearest one is a ten-minute walk from the guesthouse, so both early morning and evening sessions are easy.

Birds and the nature of the floodplain forests

15 min walk
Kingfishers, herons, storks and even pond turtles — the surrounding ponds and floodplain forests are among the richest birdwatching areas in the country. All you need is binoculars and a little patience; there is no entry fee.

Sport and entertainment

Lednice and Břeclav, within 10 km
Tennis, squash, bowling, skittles, a gym, a shooting range, a greyhound track and horse riding. Most of it is within ten kilometres — we keep information leaflets at reception and are glad to advise.

Břeclav outdoor pool

10 km by car
The municipal swimming pool with two water slides. The obvious choice for a hot day with children when you do not want to drive far.

Valtice Underground

12 km by car
A labyrinth of historic wine cellars beneath Valtice, with tastings of local wines. Underground the weather is the same whatever it is doing above, so it makes a good plan for a rainy afternoon.

Velké Bílovice

25 km by car
The largest wine-growing village in the country, with six hundred wine cellars. You can easily spend a whole evening in the cellars of local winemakers — just arrange a lift home in advance.

Aqualand Moravia

30 km by car
A thermal water park in Pasohlávky with slides and outdoor pools. The safest plan when the weather turns and you have children with you.

Water sports on the Nové Mlýny reservoirs

22 km by car
The reservoirs below Pálava are among the best places in the country for windsurfing and paddleboarding. The wind is reliable and there are facilities at several points along the dam.

The Pálava hills

The Pálava hills
A protected landscape area of limestone crags, steppe flora and views as far as Austria. The climb to Děvičky castle or to Stolová hora takes half a day.

Therme Laa an der Thaya

40 km by car
Austrian thermal baths just across the border, a popular destination. Do not forget your ID and swimwear.

Folk events and the Lednice fair

in Lednice
Traditional feasts in folk costume, the fair and cimbalom music belong to Lednice as much as the château does. The dates differ from year to year — write to us and we will advise you when to come.

In the château park itself you can watch the Zayferus birds-of-prey displays or take a boat to the Minaret or to Janův hrad. Whether you want to go horse riding or take a carriage ride, unwind at the Lednice Spa rehabilitation centre, or play squash or football — it is all here in Lednice.

In the nearby town of Břeclav there is an outdoor swimming pool with two water slides.

Wine lovers will enjoy a visit to Velké Bílovice, home to 650 wine cellars. In the cellars of local winemakers you will find excellent wines and a pleasant place to sit over a glass.

If you enjoy hiking, head for the Pálava Protected Landscape Area, which is perfect for it. And if you prefer water sports and swimming, the Nové Mlýny reservoirs lie below Pálava and are ideal for windsurfing.

Trips to nearby Austria are another good way to vary your stay in South Moravia. The thermal baths in Laa an der Thaya, for example, are a popular destination.

There really is a great deal on offer: a fitness centre, tennis, a greyhound track, bowling, skittles, squash, a shooting range, crossbow shooting and horse riding. We keep information leaflets at the guesthouse and are always glad to advise.
